Tool Paintings

Somewhere between antiques and the new-and-shiny lies a lesser-defined aesthetic. It is the look of the well worn, the everyday and not-quite-nostalgic. These tools fall into this semi-utilitarian limbo. They have lost their luster, but are still viable for use; they are aging, but not so old to necessitate retirement or discarding. The same holds true for the repurposed wood on which they are rendered.

By making art objects of these I aim to re-familiarize the viewer with the potential of what already exists, both visually and functionally. We live in a time when answers to our problems are easier to find than ever and almost anything can be hired out or bought in a store. It should not be forgotten that a solution may be easily within reach, perhaps on a shelf in the basement.
