WHAT ARE HOLGAS?
A Holga is a battery-free, plastic lens camera favored by some artistic photographers. They have one shutter speed, one aperture setting and an unreliable focus system. While the fixed settings make for a very simplistic camera, they also make using it very limited and challenging. The payoff, though, is that the plastic lens creates several favorable effects, such as a soft focus, as well as blurring and darkening around the edges of the image. They yield unexpected results and often surreal imagery, which have become the signature of these cameras and the base of their popularity.
